Cricket
Cricket at Coleraine Grammar School has been making great progress over the past six years. With the introduction of a number of enthusiastic cricket staff,
substantial investment in facilities and greater links between school and club over this period, the school is very much back on the map in terms of
cricket in Northern Ireland. Cricket Ireland representative Colin Manson and past pupil Scott Campbell have been added to the strong coaching line
up for the 2016 season. Scott is planning to bring knowledge from his years of experience with the Ireland cricket team and he has big hopes for Coleraine
Grammar cricket over the next few seasons.
Recent seasons brought plenty of success to the cricket club with the school winning the Under 14XI plate and the Ulster Schools’ 1stXI Plate competitions,
whilst the Under 13XI were runners up in the Slemish Cup. The 1stXI reached the semi-finals of the Schools’ Cup last season in a thrilling encounter
against BRA and the Colts defeated Ballyclare High School to win the Colts’ Plate competition at Muckamore Cricket Club.
With a number of promising players throughout all age groups of the school, it is very much hoped that the success of recent seasons will be replicated
again over the next number of years. Varun Chopra is setting the standard for girls and boys across the board in terms of Ulster School’s cricket.
Having recently returned from the Under 19 cricket world Cup in Bangladesh where he represented the Ireland cricket team at the age of just 16. Varun
is hoping to fuse his personal success to drive the school team forward and set an example for the junior players at the school.
