Coleraine Grammar School’s Provision for Pupils with SEN during remote learning

During this current phase of online learning, we wanted to make parents/carers aware of all the support still available to our SEN pupils.

Class teachers have pupils’ IEPs to support their learning online.

In addition, the following support is also available:

Statemented Pupils

  • Pupils with statements in CGS can be supported by the Classroom Assistants in their relevant Google Classrooms.Their CA will also make contact
    with the pupil via email regularly.
  • Some annual reviews had already taken place, remaining ones will be held remotely and Mrs Taggart will provide information about these to parents/carers
    in due course.
  • If parents/carers wish to contact the SENCO, they can do so by emailing staggart716@c2kni.net

SEN pupils receiving Learning Support

  • Any SEN pupils who would normally receive learning support in school for Literacy or Social, Emotional, Behavioural Needs or Nurture can communicate
    with their LS teacher via their own Google Classrooms;
  • LS teachers added all their pupils to these Google Classrooms before school closed and therefore can support their pupils remotely via these classrooms.There
    will be resources in these classrooms for pupils and also Nurture support where relevant.LS teachers will make contact with these pupils week
    beginning 4/1/21.
  • Classroom teachers have been advised to communicate with LS teachers if there are specific SEN needs that require support in their individual subjects;
  • If parents/carers have any queries about this please contact staggart716@c2kni.net

Other SEN pupils

  • All pupils who are currently on our SEN register have IEPs and therefore their classroom teachers still have access to these Individual Education
    Plans with their current targets to support their learning;
  • SENCO has advised classroom teachers to continue their support of these pupils as far as possible remotely via their Google Classrooms through
    differentiation etc;
  • Parents/carers should make contact with Mrs S. Taggart via email if they have concerns or questions pertaining to any of our SEN pupils: staggart716@c2kni.net

General Information

  • The Pastoral Area of the website and the Pastoral and Wellbeing Google Classroom have lots of information about support for various needs, please
    access these;
  • Our IEP reviews that would be due to take place this term will be slightly delayed, but will hopefully take place in most cases in February;
  • Any pupil that was due to be tested for literacy needs in January will be facilitated as soon as we can once face to face teaching recommences;
  • Any SEN pupil who was receiving support from an external agency in school – this has been postponed until face to face teaching resumes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all navigate this uncertain time together. Please do not hesitate to contact me via the email address
given above and if you would like me to respond via phone call, please add your contact number to the email.

Kindest regards,

Mrs Sarah Taggart
