Coleraine Grammar School celebrate their first set of A Level Results

On Thursday 18th August there were lots of delighted faces at Coleraine Grammar School, as the Year 13 and 14 pupils received their
AS and A2 results.

One of the most delighted pupils was Omer Nalbant, who achieved 4 A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, plus an A in Biology.
This is a truly outstanding collection of grades which enables him to take up a place at Oxford to study Material Science.  Abigail Lynas
also achieved a most impressive 3 A*s in Biology, French and Spanish, which means she can begin her midwifery course at Sheffield Hallam.

Marie Richmond, Emily Scott, Sarah Barr and Jonathan Martin all achieved 2 A*s and 1 A grade, whilst Wesley McCartney achieved 2 A*s and 2 A grades.
Marie is going to Liverpool to study Dental Surgery, Emily is taking a place in Accounting at Queen’s University Belfast and Sarah is going
to study Medicine at Queen’s.  Wesley is embarking on a degree in Mathematics at Bristol University.  For these pupils to have received
not only one, but multiple A* grades each, is testament to dedication and consistent effort throughout their AS and A2 courses.

The first Head Boy and Head Girl of Coleraine Grammar School, Connor Skuce and Emily McConaghie produced excellent results too.Emily achieved an
A* in French and 2 As in Music and Spanish, while Connor received an A* in Biology, 2 As in Chemistry and Maths, plus a B in RE.  Emily
is planning on taking up a place at Queens to study French and Spanish, whilst Connor is planning to attend the University of Dundee to study
Medicine.

The prestigious A* grade was awarded in fourteen different subject areas: Art, Chemistry, Biology, French, Maths, Geography, History,
ICT, Physics, Spanish, Technology, English, Health and Social Care and Further Maths.  This indicates the excellent teaching and learning
across many areas of the curriculum.  Overall, 21 pupils gained 3 As or A*s in their Year 14 courses.

The pupils deserve to be congratulated for their success and we look forward to seeing how they progress at university and then in their chosen
career paths.

There was also much to celebrate in Year 13.Firstly, there were 106 pupils who achieved at least one A grade in their year 13 courses (59% of all
pupils in Year 13).

Very impressively, nine pupils attained their A2 Maths in one year whilst also studying their other AS subjects.  These pupils were George
Clarke, Sam Clarke, Jordan Kilgore, Thomas Lavery, Jeff Mitchell, Ciara Richmond, Grace Richmond, Scott Torrens and Ben Turner.  Most
notably, Grace achieved an A*, which is an outstanding result.

In Year 13 as a whole, there were the fifteen pupils who achieved 4 grade As, which is an excellent accomplishment since studying 4 subjects requires
even more dedication, organisation and motivation.  This is very encouraging because it will stand these pupils in good stead as they
embark upon their A2 courses next term.  There were a further fourteen pupils who received 3 grade As in their AS exams.  Amongst
these pupils are Coleraine Grammar School’s new Head Boy and Head Girl, who both achieved excellent results.  Zachary Hutchinson gained
3 A grades in Maths, Politics and RE, whilst Grace Carson received 4 A grades in French, German, Maths and RE.

Other successes in the AS results by department include, 22 A grades in Biology, 20 in English, 26 in Maths and 22 in RE.  Overall, these
AS results are very pleasing and the pupils should be proud of their achievements as they move forward into their final year of study before
university.

Congratulations to our excellent year 14s and 13s!
